Tap into external knowhow

New technologies like our systems-in-foil and wireless autonomous transducer solutions, open up new markets and applications. But creating new end-products for these markets requires overcoming many challenges from the composition of the raw materials, fine-tuning of processes to components and system design.

By entering our technology programs, partners immediately get insight into the complete production chain. This avoids making unneeded efforts to solve problems in-house, as companies elsewhere in the production chain might already have found a solution.

Each of our technology programs brings together experts from all along the production chain, from chemists to physicists, scientists to engineers. And we work closely with universities, research institutes, standards organizations and more, giving you a vast pool of external know how to tap into.

 Functional Foils

The Flexible Electronics Eco-System

Related to our flexible electronics activities, Holst Centre subscribes to the vision of a smart-foils industry where functional foils can be processed separately and laminated into a final system. The Holst Centre flexible electronics program brings together innovative leaders from various levels in this eco-system. Companies like Dupont Teijin Films, Solvay, Merck and Agfa, bring in their knowledge on substrates and materials. Equipment suppliers and organic electronic manufacturers such as Orbotech, Coherent, Roth&Rau, ASML, Singulus Mastering and plastic electronic deliver a deep understanding of the production processes and facilities. Integrated device manufacturers like Philips and Polymer Vision provide clear specifications of what market-ready technology and system design should look like.

eHealth value chain

For our research on wireless autonomous transducer solutions, one of the main emerging markets in the field of Wellness and Healthcare is eHealth and personalized medicine. This eco-system encompasses a broad range of expertise in hardware and software development. It starts with IC design, silicon processing and (sensor-)system manufacturing. But it also involves data extraction and algorithms, real-time data interpretation and database management. Clearly all of this must be compliant with the stringent requirements of a medical environment. Holst Centre therefore partners not only with Semiconductor companies like Philps, NXP and Texas Instruments, but also teams up with medical hospitals, revalidation centers and companies with expertise in specific areas such as database management ir security and identification.
