One of the main reasons that Holst Centre is able to attract excellent talent and grow as rapidly as it has, is the fact that we do applied research for socially important themes like: healthcare, environmental and agricultural monitoring. The research aims for technologies that can be used in applications in 3 to 10 years from now.
Light-emitting wallpaper, body sensors that monitor your emotions, flexible solar cells and smart medicine packages: these are the type of applications that drive our research and our researchers forward. While it is up to our industrial partners to ensure the uptake of the generic technologies in their products, we do make functional demonstrators that we test in real life applications. Think about our ECG patch that is being used in Kempenhaeghe epilepsy and sleep medicine center. Or the integration of our flexible OLED signage device in a Le Mans race car. Just to illustrate that Holst Centre research is taken outside the labs and into people’s lives.
